Vaccines and You: Dr Jennifer Njenga

Dr Jennifer Njenga MD MPH DRPH is the CEO of Canada Homecare Group. In August 2021, she presented workshops for LCCMedia Foundation on  Improving Vaccine Literacy Campaign with the Edmonton Community Foundation and the Federation of Black Communities.

The workshops she led were titled Vaccines and You. Each workshop was different though, she attempted to strike a balance between scientific facts and the reality of the times we live in and how essential it is to be vaccinated. Her knowledge of the virus and community uptake of the vaccine was contagious.

She spoke about the current trends in Alberta, sighting the variants of concern. She indicated that there was evidence of increase in transmissibility, a significant reduction in neutralization by antibodies generated during previous infection or vaccination, reduced effectiveness of treatments or vaccines and a diagnosis detection failure. She reiterated that the variant of concern created a more severe disease which increased hospitalisations or deaths.

She addressed different myths and facts about Covid 19.

For example, are vitamins and mineral supplements a cure for Covid 19?

Micronutrients, such as vitamins D and C and zinc, are critical for a well-functioning immune system and play a vital role in promoting health and nutritional well-being.  There is currently no guidance on the use of micronutrient supplements as a treatment of COVID-19.

Another myth is that  Covid-19 virus is transmitted while swimming.

The COVID-19 virus does not transmit through water while swimming. However, the virus spreads between people when someone has close contact with an infected person.

There is a link between 5G mobile networks and the spread of COVID-19

5G mobile networks DO NOT spread COVID-19

Viruses cannot travel on radio waves/mobile networks. COVID-19 is spreading in many countries that do not have 5G mobile networks.

COVID-19 is spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. People can also be infected by touching a contaminated surface and then their eyes, mouth or nose.

The Covid-19 Vaccines make our body magnetic, due to microchips that are part of the vaccine.

Vaccines do not contain microchips but ingredients that equip us with antibodies against the virus.  The next workshop is August 27th at 6pm.
